Qantas will boost its capacity to the United States (US) next summer as it takes over operations of flights between Melbourne and Honolulu from its budget subsidiary Jetstar.
Qantas will boost its capacity to the United States (US) next summer as it takes over operations of flights between Melbourne and Honolulu from its budget subsidiary Jetstar.
The Mascot, Australia-based airline will launch direct flights on the Melbourne-Honolulu route with three weekly flights starting early May 2025. The airline will use its Airbus A330 aircraft on the route.
With Qantas' launch of the Melbourne-Honolulu route, Jetstar will cease its twice-weekly flights on the route from April 30, 2025. Currently using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, Jetstar will deploy the aircraft on another long-haul route.
“We are thrilled to continue to enhance our network in America with the launch of a new route from Melbourne to Honolulu, bringing a new, tropical destination to our Melbourne customers,” said Cam Wallace, CEO International, Qantas. “Our new service ensures continued connectivity for Melbournians to Hawaii, while enabling Jetstar to redeploy its 787 aircraft to other destinations and long-haul routes.”
According to Qantas, the new service will add more than 40,000 seats per year to the capital of the US state of Hawaii. Qantas and Jetstar currently operates a combined eight weekly flights between Sydney and Honolulu.
